I don't know about any other moms out there, but I am surely exhausted. My son Milo used to be such a great sleeper until about 6 months ago when he reached roughly 2.5 years old. Since then he has been waking up multiple times throughout the night and been extremely difficult to get back down. I'm not sure if it is sleep regression, teething, or if he is becoming more aware of the life around him. I am a single mom, and his dad in irregularly in and out of his life and we just relocated to another state (Nevada to Utah, USA). I am sure that can be hard on a young growing boy. As I have gotten close to the point of desperation, these are the products and essentials that saved us from falling over the edge into the abyss of insanity.
1.Skip Hop Moonlight & Melodies Baby Night Light This Skip Hop baby sound machine features four lullabies and four nature sounds. Star and moon ceiling projection and glowing night light belly with dimmer control perfect as a nursery nightlight. Shusher sound machine is complete with a four mode auto-off timer helping babies fall asleep. This sleep soother's lullabies and white noise nature sounds can be set to play all night helping babies sleep through the night, which is what I did for my Milo or set to turn off automatically after a set desired time. This is the newest addition to our night time routine and has honestly been a lifesaver. Milo seems to love it and this would make for an ideal baby shower gift. Seriously the best money I have ever spent. 2. Himalayan Salt Lamp Pure Himalayan salt crystals act as a natural air purifier. The lamp emits negative ions that fight positively charged particles such as pollen's, pet dander, smoke and other pollutants. To help your toddler breathe and ultimately sleep easier. The lamp creates a warm natural amber glow. Salt lamps are perfect as a gentle nightlight with the variable dimmer dial for a soothing, calming, relaxing atmosphere.
3. Night Time Routine Having a night time routine and sticking with it allows your toddler to know and expect that it's time to start winding down for the night. Going through the steps of your routine can aid them in mentally preparing for bedtime. Our nighttime routine is fairly simple:
-Dinner -Bath -Skincare & Pajamas -Warm Milk -Dave & Ava (Cartoons) -Huggies Night Time Diaper -Brush Teeth -Story -Skip Hop Sound Machine -Goodnight Doing extra little things to calm and soothe your baby/toddler can also help in them sleeping peacefully all through the night. Such as a gently scented baby wash, we have been using the new hypoallergenic and paraben free Johnson’s Skin Nourishing Baby Wash with Shea & Cocoa Butter, an ultra nourishing lotion to smooth dry itchy skin such as Gold Bond Ultimate Rough & Bumpy or Johnson’s Calming Bedtime Baby Lotion. Adding essential oils and/or coconut oil into the bath water or an aromatherapy diffuser. Making sure bedding is clean and tucked in tightly onto mattress.
Also, if your toddler seems restless at night try picking up and organizing the room/nursery. Don't be afraid to get them involved. Milo actually enjoys picking up his toys at night and once he is done he crawls right into his toddler bed and lays down. A mess can oftentimes trigger anxiety and cause restlessness causing your child to have a more difficult time sleeping throughout the night.
